Classes 3+4 Flashcards

What’s the goal of mental game?
Not let bad hands affect my play within a session. It’s much better to be a player who plays 50% of the time his A game and 50% his B game, then to be a player who plays 90% of the time his A game and 10% of the time his E game.
I open KdQd from LJ, BB calls.
Flop comes Ah6c2sr, X/c33/insta call.
Turn Qh, BB checks, i check back.
River 9c, BB insta bets 3.4BB into 6.8BB.
My action?
I can call sometimes or even most of the time. I still beat stuff like 54,34,87, backdoor draws etc which called the flop.
He went for a large raise(!) - the pool will think that it’s underbluffed, as my draws, such as hh, KJ etc will mostly bet the turn. So it’s very easy for him to put me on a value range
Raise 19BB.
How do I know if it’s a good spot to bluff?
Reverse the situation: put myself in the villian’s shoes. If i had AJo, I call an open from LJ, flop is this and that, turn checked through, i bet half pot and he raises me, would I think that it’s mostly a bluff or a value? If I will think it’s mostly a value, it’s an indication that this might be a good spot to bluff.
I call as BB vs LJ open with QTo.
Flop comes 6c5c5d.
I check, he quickly checked back.
Turn 7c. What do I do?
With 5x,overpair, and a flush draw, he bets most of the time or at least think about it. So I can take the nutted portion of his range out.
I have to ask, if villain is good enough to have a balanced checking range at this spot. Most of the pool isn’t good enough. 9/10 players will be very unbalanced here.
Bet. Bluff my entire range.
LJ open, i defend BB with 86s.
Flop comes J56r, I check, LJ bets 2.5BB into 5BB. What is an option I should consider and why?
What’s the disadvantage in always calling?
Many players will c-bet too much. I attack those players by expanding my x/r range.
raise to 7.5BB. Villian called, and folded when the turn came 9 and we bet the pot (we can easily had 87s here and he could have folded Jx).
Many players will not be able to float me here with the correct hands (A7 QT,KQ with bd flush draw) and fold a lot , and are not able to find 3-bet bluffs on the flop -> this is a very profitable play.
Disadvantage in always calling- villain will be able to barrel me off my hand on many runouts.
How do I figure out which hands should be in my expanded X/R range vs a player who c-bets too much?
- Does my hand block value? (for example, having third pair on the board is nice)
- Can I barrel turns often enough? For example, with a pair and bd flush and bd straight, i can barrel many turns as many turns will give me tons of equity.
BvB, I open with A9dd, BB 3-bets, I call. Flop comes KQ7 with one diamond. BB bets 1/3 pot.
Is this a good hand to float?
Nope. Villian’s range will have AK/AQ/JTs/AJ/AT, meaning that A isn’t an out. When my A is likely to be a reverse implied odds if I hit it, just fold.
I 3-bet AhTc vs CO, he calls.
Pot 21.5BB. Effective 62.5BB.
Flop comes JdTh2h.
Should I bet or check?
Either is fine.
Ian thinks that check will perform much better because our opponent will have so many hands in his range that have no equity (he’s opening many hands because he’s a rec,) and we want to punish him by allowing him to make mistakes.
I can get thin value from his underpairs/weaker Tx/KQ on later streets.
I 3-bet AhTc vs CO, he calls.
Pot 21.5BB. Effective 62.5BB.
Flop comes JdTh2h. X/X
Turn 5h he instantly checks,
what should I do?
Once hs insta-check, his range is mostly underpairs and weaker Tx (a strong hand would at least think about leading the turn), maybe AK/AQ, I want to bet for thin value, and allow him to continue with hands like AQ no hearts.
Bet 4BBs.
I 3-bet AhTc vs CO, he calls.
Pot 21.5BB. Effective 62.5BB.
Flop comes JdTh2h. X/X
Turn 5h he instantly checks,
I bet 4BB, he insta calls.
Pot 29.5BBs.
River 6s, he tanks for 6 seconds and bets 22.1BB, leaving himself with 36.5 BBs behind.
What should I do?
This is close to a potsize bet, which is underbluffed. It is a 3-bet pot- i think that this underbluffed. I honestly put him on strong hands like two pair plus, and fold.
Actual answer:
We manipulated his range to be very wide getting to this point. While 65/66/43 got there on the river,I should not think about “ he will have some missed draws. And yet given his action, I’m folding.”, but I should add the random factor to recs, and the fact that his range is wide. Easy call.
He had 88 no h (a hand which makes no sense as a bluff at this spot).
I open KhJc,
sb (a tight reg with 18% vpip) calls.
Flop comes 533r, i c-bet 1.7BB, he snap x/r to 5.8BB.
What’s his range?
What do I do?
His range is 66-99,sometimes some Ax with a backdoor draw?
He will barely have nutted hands like A3s,55,33.
Why?
A tight reg will hardly call 33/55 from sb, and even if he did, he’s not going to raise it.
Ian 3-bet bluff the flop 17.1BB.
Principle is:
On these low boards, when players’ ranges are entirely protection-driven, and they don’t have their nutted part of their range, I need to be really aggressive when they try to do their protection play. This happens a lot on xxy boards all low like 663,775,442 etc.
This play is great vs a tight reg, if it’s a rec who’s never folding his 88-TT then always do it with value.
BvB, I have AJo,
flop comes 84Tr, X/X
Turn 9r X
I bet 6BB into 4BB (a rare play),
he tanks for 5 seconds and X/R me 14BBs.
What’s his range, and what should I do?
After flop went X/X,
and turn went X/ overbet,
I have to ask myself: How likely is it that villain will find a significant bluff X/R range?
If he had something like J5dd, it’s more likely that he bluffs this hand on the flop or turn, rather than x/r it on the turn.
On the turn, when I overbet and face a x/r, it’s value most of the time.
Call because of pot odds
BvB, I have AJo,
flop comes 84Tr, X/X
Turn 9r X
I bet 6BB into 4BB (a rare play),
he tanks for 5 seconds and X/R me 14BBs. I call.
River is Kd, he quickly checks, pot is 32,130BB effective behind, what should I do?
He X/R an overbet on the turn so he has a very strong value range. It will be a disaster to bluff here.
Check back.
Villian had T8o (two pair).
LJ (a very tight fish) opens to 3BB, HJ flats, I flat on BU with 6d6c, sb (effective 150BB) 3-bets to 14BB, LJ calls, HJ folds, I call.
46BBs in the pot.
Flop comes Qs6s9s, sb tanks 5 seconds checks, LJ insta checks, it’s on us
Bet or check and why?
I’d bet small to get value from AA/KK or AK with one spade, PSP checked.
He thinks check is better because rather than trying to extract value, it’s better to let the villains navigate their air region of their ranges (AThh,JJ with or without s, etc) and give them a chance to make mistakes.
LJ (a very tight fish) opens to 3BB, HJ flats, I flat on BU with 6d6c, sb (effective 150BB) 3-bets to 14BB, LJ calls, HJ folds, I call.
46BBs in the pot.
Flop comes Qs6s9s, sb tanks 5 seconds checks, LJ insta checks, we check back.
Turn Tc, sb checks, LJ bets 23BB into 46BB, what do I do?
Just a call, as I don’t want to isolate myself vs the nutted parts of his range which beat me (there are many sets which beat me, flushes etc)
Turn Tc, sb checks, LJ bets 23BB into 46BB,I call sb folds. Pot 92BB and 90bb effective behind.
River 8s, and he tanks for 5 seconds and checks. What do I do?
He has something like QQ/TT/99/KJs/AJs that I lose to (or AQ/KQ/T9s that I do beat), I lose to too many non-flush hands that beat us and I think that he will fold on this river to an all-in most of the portion of hands that beat me, so I turn my bottom set into a bluff.
I’m all in.
Villian snap-called with AdKs :D
What do we think about all the time?
My opponents’ range range range. All the time.
I open Q9hh as sb vs bb, flop comes Qd9d3s, i c-bet 1.5 into 6BB, he raises to 8.3BB, what do I do?
Since I have the top two pair, which allows my opponent to still have Q3 and 93 as value, allows me to 3-bet more, as opposed to a hand like Q3.
3-bet to 20BB
I 4-bet AA HJ vs BU, he calls,
pot is 39.5BB, effective behind 55BBs.
Flop comes 765r. Should I bet or check?
I block AK/AQ, so a lot of his range will be 99-QQ. I prefer bet small.
Bet 10% (4BBs).
I 4-bet AA HJ vs BU, he calls,
pot is 39.5BB, effective behind 55BBs.
Flop comes 765r. I bet 4BBs, he raised to 13BBs. What should I do?
His range is sets and then im going to lose anyways, and 99-QQ.
I don’t want him to fold now or check back the turn. Min-click.
PSM: A lot of his range is air, that’s why we bet small, so he continue with his QJhh or shit like which has no equity vs our hand. Some portion of the time he’s going to raise with that range. If he has some value like worse pocket pairs, it’s all going to go in on the turn anyways (SPR<1 btw), and that’s offset by the times he has garbage anyways. So call is better.
I open Q9hh as sb vs bb, flop comes Qd9d3s, i c-bet 1.5 into 6BB, he raises to 8.3BB, I 3-bet the flop to 23BBs he calls. Pot is 53.1BB.
Turn is 3d. What do I do?
This is the worst turn card in the deck, as now any flush draw got there, Q3 got there, 3x that fucked with me on the flop got there.
Check.
I 4-bet AA HJ vs BU, he calls,
pot is 39.5BB, effective behind 55BBs.
Flop comes 765r. I bet 4BBs, he raised to 13BBs. I call.
Turn 2c, i check, he bets 21.6BB into 60BB, he has 20.4 behind. What should I do?
Call, let him continue bluffing..
I open as LJ AhAd BB calls.
Flop comes KcJhs7c, I bet 3.1BB into 4.5BB pot, BB snap calls.
Turn 4c. Pot is 10.6BB,
effective 60.6. What’s my sizing on the turn?
Slight overbet or pot, targeting KQ,KT,QT and maybe Jx if he’s sticky, but at the same time not scaring him off with 150% pot.
Bet 11BBs.
I open as LJ AhAd BB calls.
Flop comes KcJhs7c, I bet 3.1BB into 4.5BB pot, BB snap calls.
Turn 4c. Pot is 10.6BB,
effective 60.6. I bet 11BB he snap calls.
River 8s, pot is 31.8, effective 50BB,
what do I do?
While my hand is technically worth a jam, player overfold vs an overbet in every spot. If the player calls a jam with a Kx, a jam is the best option, but against the majority of the pool (plays that are good vs majority of the pool should be our basic strat, and then deviate if I have read vs a specific player):
I want to target his KQ/KT/K9/AK. Go close to a pot, since i think those hands will not call an all in.
Bet 28BBs.
