Climate Change Flashcards
(21 cards)
water cycle
- Evaporation
2.Sublimation
3.Condensation
4.Precipitation
5.Subsurface flow
6.Surface runoff
7.ice/snowmelt
8.Streamflow
evaporation
liquid → water vapor (ex. Result of water boiling)
sublimation
ice → vapor (smoke in the fridge)
condensation
water vapor → liquid (water on a cold water bottle, water bottle sweating)
precipitation
falls from sky (rain, snow, hail)
Subsurface flow
water flowing underground
Surface runoff
rain → stream, lake → ocean
ice/snowmelt
melting snow/ice…goes underground
Streamflow
streams flowing from high elevation to low elevation
Carbon cycle
-Cellular respiration and photosynthesis(autotrophs):
1.Take in Co2
2.Sequester (store) it
3. Make sugar
- Cellular Respiration(heterotrophs):
1.eat sugar
2.exhale Co2
Cellular Respiration
releasing carbon after eating…pooping*
Greenhouse Effect
-Co2
-Water
-Methane
greenhouse effect importance
-Greenhouse effect is important because it keeps the earth at a livable heat
-Human enhanced greenhouse is bad because it creates more chemicals in the atmosphere making the earth hotter
climate
-long term, predictable
-Ex; “winter is cold”
Weather
-short term
-ex; “rain tomorrow
global warming
rising of global temperature
climate change
the effect of global warming and the earth getting hotter
Evidence for Human-Induced Climate Change:
They found out that humans cause more climate change by testing the ice and seeing that there is more co2 in the most recent/closest layer to the surface.
Consequences of climate change:
-Temperature will rise (severe weather)
-Glacial and ice capsule will melt
-Sea levels will rise
-Economic losses
-Agriculture (crop being wiped out, reduced yield)
Behaviors that can reduce climate change:
-Ride bike, stop using cars
-Use solar panels
-Reuse and recycle
-Walk
-Compost
-use less technology
why climate change is not a debate
climate change is a fact, factual
