Climatographs And Climate Change Flashcards
(11 cards)
What is a climatograph
A summary of precipitation and temp each month of the year for a given location
They are used to illustrate the climate in a specific biome
What do climatologists believe plays a role in climate change
Human activity
Why is the earth warm
Due to natural greenhouse effect
What are the four greenhouse gases generated by human activity
Carbon dioxide, methane, dinitrogen monoxide, and water vapour
The concentration of greenhouse gases overtime are analyzed by
Core samples of ice
Atmospheric data
What is a carbon source and carbon sink
A carbon source is any process the releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere (combustion, respiration)
A carbon sink is any process that removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere(photosynthesis)
How could the amount of carbon dioxide remain constant
If the amount of gas being released into the atmosphere was the same as the amount being removed (zero carbon footprint)
What is the enhanced greenhouse effect and what is it caused by
Change in earth net radiation budget caused by increase in human generated greenhouse gases
Global warming is a sign of what?
That the earth is experiencing climate change
What are a few other observations of climate change
Rising sea levels
Retreat of glaciers
Frequency of severe storms
Earlier flowering or flowering plants
Decline of fish stocks as ocean temp rises
Opposed to climatologists some scientists attribute earths temperature to what
Natural climate cycle
