Heating Curves + Biomes Flashcards
(11 cards)
What are heating curves used for
Used to show the phases and temp of a substance change over time
What is a biome and what kind of system is it
A large geographical area with a particular range of temp and precipitation levels
It’s an open system
What determines the types of organisms that will survive in biomes
Their climate
What are a few of earths biomes
Tundra
Taiga
Desert
Deciduous forest
Rainforest
Grasslands
Savanna
Describe the tundra
In arctic regions, cold and dry, small plants, animals with thick furs like polar bears live there
Describe the Taiga
Cold winters and cool summers, moderate moisture, contains conifers, large animals like bears
Describe the deciduous forest
Moderate climate, more precipitation, defined summers and winters, consists of broad leafed plants, trees lose leaves in winter, small animals like squirrels
Describe the grasslands and what the grasses have
Dry regions, grasses have extensive root systems to obtain as much water as possible
Describe the tropical rainforest
Greatest diversity, lots of rain, high avg temp, brightly colored animals, gorillas and chimpanzees
Describe the desert
Very little precipitation, hot days and cold nights, lots of arachnids
What are the four biomes canada has
Tundra
Taiga
Grasslands
Deciduous forest
