1. Vasospasm - constricts vessel and reduces flow
2. Formation of platelet plug - platelets adhere to damaged vessel and to each other
3. Clot formation - coagulation occurs. fibrin forms meshwork
4. Clot retraction - platelets trapped contract, pulling broken vessel together. Platelets release growth factors for tissue repair.
5. Clot dissolution - “fibrinolysis” removes clot after tissue has been repair
