COASTAL FIELDWORK Flashcards
(10 cards)
What is the difference between Qualitative and Quantative data?
QUANTATIVE data is numerical and can be used in statistical analysis
QUALITATIVE DATA is not numerical
Primary data
Data you collect yourself
Secondary data
Data that has not been produced by you, still useful e. G census/ population count/ geology map
Field sketches
- clear
-colourful
-allows us to locate proxemics
Can opus on relevant aspects
-inaccurate
-difficult to read
-can be destroyed/ rained on/ unusable
Beach profile
-clear
-could be accurate
-human error in deciding where to place the ranging poles
-takes time
-beach profile could change horizontally as well as vertically
-possible measurement error
Pebble Sampling
-random, no bias
-Quantative data
-sampling error bias
-operator error
-measurement error
Time-consuming
Advantages and disadvantages of SYSTEMATIC
+ reduces bias
+ even spread
-time-consuming
-measuring errors possible
Advantages and disadvantages of RANDOM
+ removes any human bias
+ no knowledge needed of the area
-poor representation
Advantages and disadvantages of STRATIFIED
-accurate representation
+ removes bias
-must have prior knowledge
-may not have access to each category
Fieldwork enquiry
What are the coastal forms and processes occurring at pett level?
