Q

What was the procedure of practical (cog)

A

Lab experiment using sampling opportunity of COPC Y1 psych students aged 16/17
pps will be allocated 1 condition, either recalling in silence or with music
Asked to read passage of text and memorise within 10 minutes ams answer 10 multiple choice questions whilst listening to music
Recall either matching or mist aching conditions and 2 minutes to answer

5
Q

What was the finding of practical (cognitive)

A

Matching has results of 9.5 / 1.16
Mismatching has results of 90.5 / 1.56 using Mann Whitney test

6
Q

What was conclusions of practical (cognitive)

A

Results are significant, pps who recall I’m matching conditions will recall more correct results therefore it is context dependent

7
Q

2 strength of practical (cognitive)

A
  1. Reliable, standardised procedures
Pps given same test same music and same time
    Therefore reliability
  2. Upheld ethical guidelines
Pps told aim and given debrief, right to withdraw and consent

8
Q

2 weaknesses of practical (cog)

A
  1. Lack’s generalisability
22 alevel psych students from COPC, 16/17 yrs
    Therefore unrepresentative
  2. Lacks ecological validity
    Lab experiment, artificial setting
Therefore doesn’t represent memory in real life

16
Q

What are the 2 subsystems of the visiospacial sketchpad

A

The visual cache
The inner scribe

17
Q

What is the visual cache

A

Store that stores visual data

18
Q

What is the inner scribe

A

Store that records the arrangement of objects in the visual field

19
Q

What does the episodic buffer do

A

Binds info from all components

20
Q

Who was reconstructive memory proposed by

21
Q

What does the reconstructive memory suggest

A

That we actively try and make sense of new Information based on what we already know
Memory recall may be distorted when memory is reconstructed

22
Q

What do schemas do

A

Hold prior information from built experience

23
Q

What is confabulation

A

Gaps that are filled from preexiting information
