Flashcards in Cognitive Approach Deck (7):
What are the studies within the approach?
What are the assumptions?
-Internal mental processes such as memory, thinking, reasoning, problem solving and language are important features in influencing behaviour
What are the strengths?
-Favours the scientific method using lab exp= cause and effect
-Quantitative data= easier to compare and test for reliability
-Help explain behaviour and have practical applications in real life
What are the weaknesses?
-lab exp= low in ecological v and higher demand characteristics
-tends to ignore social, motivational and emotional factors and assumes that man is rational
-mental processes are private and can be difficult to reveal in non-experimental research
What is a similarity and difference between L&P and Baren Cohen?
-both DV= test scores/answers
-low ecological v as lab exp
-L&P low population validity as students
-Baren Cohen= control group so higher
What is a similarity and difference between L&P and Savage Rumbaugh?
-Baren Cohen a lab exp so demand characteristics and low eco v
-Savage Rumbaugh a field exp
