Japanese are more likely to detect changes in the environment. Americans were more likely to detect a changing salient object.

Categorisation:

  • American children order the cow and the chicken together because those belong to the category animals.

Chinese children order the cow with the grass because they see the context. The cow does eat grass.

When participants looked at an underwater aquarium scene, asians first described the background of the underwater scene.
Americans did first describe the fish that could be seen in the foreground of the painting.

Asian art is primarily focused on wide environmantal
