A

-the world was divided into nations each one of which was defined by its own distinctive culture
-main characteristic of national culture = a common language
-fixed ideas of liberalism shouldn’t apply to nationalism - believed each national group was distinctive and developed its own values, thus the ideas of the french revolution (the liberal principles are applicable to all people in all circumstances) clashed with his thinking

A

-pro monarchy, anti semitic, anti democratic
-proposed the restoration of french nationalism and a stress on patriotism
-wanted to restore traditional values
-wanted a return to pre-revolutionary france where the monarch and the church imposed discipline upon the people and there was little democracy
-believed the interests of individuals should be suppressed in favour of a collective identity - people are in complete obedience to the ideals on the nation
