What is coding and quantitative data?

A

Some data sets to be analysed may be extremely large -> need to categorise it into meaningful units
May involve counting up the number of times a particular word or phrase appears in the text
Produces quantitative data

A

A form of content analysis but the outcome is qualitative

What is the processes of thematic analysis?

A

Involves identification of themes

  • Once researcher has themes that they have developed that cover most apsects of the data they are analysing, they may collect a new set of data to test the validity of the themes and categories
  • Researchers writes up the final report, typically using direct quotes from the dates to illustrate each time
