Convection Flashcards
(5 cards)
1
Q
What is convection?
A
The flow of thermal energy through a liquid or a gas caused by movement of the liquid or gas itself.
2
Q
What happens to molecules when heated?
A
They gain Kinetic Energy causing them to move faster and vibrate more.
3
Q
Describe what happens to a cup of hot tea as it reaches thermal equilibrium?
A
The tea will cool down, and the room might become slightly warmer.
4
Q
What is an example of convection?
A
When water is heated, the hotter, less dense water at the bottom rises and the colder, more dense water sink to take its place.
5
Q
What is convection current?
A
A circular movement of fluids or gases, caused by differences in temperature and density.
