Thermal Energy VS Tempersture Flashcards
(9 cards)
What is the particle arrangement in solids?
Tightly packed in an ordered pattern. Only little movement.
What is the particle arrangement in liquids?
Particles are quite close together and move with random motion throughout the container.
What is the particle arrangement in gases?
Widely spaced out and move rapidly in random directions.
How can a substance go from one state of matter to another state of matter?
By adding or removing energy (heating or cooling).
What is kinetic energy? Which state of matter has the most kinetic energy and which has the least?
Kinetic Energy is the energy of movement. Gas has the most KE and liquid has the least KE.
What is the term used for the average kinetic energy of particles in matter? What units is this measured in?
Temperature. Measured in degrees celsius.
What is the particle model?
All matter consists of many, very small particles which are in a continual state of motion. Particles move further apart when heated.
What is temperature?
The measure of how hot or cold an object is. Temperature is measured in degrees celsius.
What is heat?
The name for the type of Kinetic Energy possessed by particles. Heat is measured in Joules.
