What triggered the Corfu Crisis?
Italian General Tellini was murdered in Greece, 27 August while working for the League.
How did Mussolini respond to Tellini’s death?
Blamed Greece and invaded the Greek island of Corfu in 31 of August.
How did the League respond to the Corfu Crisis?
Condemned Mussolini but told Greece to pay compensation if the killers were found.
What did Mussolini do after the League’s decision?
demanded the Conference of Ambassadors deal with the issue and threatened to leave the League if they didn’t
who was supporting Italy and who wasn’t
Britain did not support Italy here – prepared to send warships to get Mussolini out of Corfu
France did support Italy, likely because they were busy occupying the Ruhr and couldn’t get involved in another dispute
If Britain and France had united, they would have been able to stop Mussolini

Greece had to apologise and pay compensation. Italy withdrew in 27 of September but got its way.
Why was Corfu a failure for the League?
Showed that big powers like Italy could bully smaller ones and bypass the League, exposing how powerless the league is.
