What is the LON
An international organisation set up in 1919 as part of the Treaty of Versailles.
Proposed by US President Woodrow Wilson, but the USA never joined.
What are the aims of the League
A - Discourage Aggression
C – Co-operate to solve international problems
D – Disarmament
C – Conditions (improve working/living standards)
What was the Assembly in the League of Nations?
A yearly meeting of all member countries that voted on issues. Decisions had to be unanimous.
What was the Council?
A smaller group that met more often to deal with crises and make decisions.
What did the Permanent Court of International Justice do?
Settled disputes between countries with legal advice – but had no power to enforce rulings.
What did the Secretariat do?
Kept records of the league meetings and prepared reports for different agencies in the league.They also had specialist sections covering areas such as health, disarmament and economic matters

Why was usa not joining a problem for the League?
It weakened the League’s authority and economic power.
