Cornea 1 Flashcards
corneal cap
the apical zone or central zone of the cornea that has a constant area of curvature.
Where is the thinnest area of the cornea?
1.5mm temporal to the geographic center
Corneal apex
Point of maximal corneal curvature
Corneal vertex
Intersection point of:
- Line of fixation
- K surface
- *Refractive surgery: Center ablation around corneal vertex
What is the depth of penetration of UBM and what is the resolution? AS-OCT?
- 5mm; 35-70 um
* to the ciliary body; 5-10um
Approximately what percentage of people 30-60 have DES? over 65?
10%; 15%
Ocular rosacea may be related to overexpression of what antimicrobial peptide?
cathelicidin
Phlyctenulosis
White lymph nodule with dilated vessels surrounding in the cornea or conj.
Type IV delayed hypersensitivity usually from blepharitis. Other causes are TB and acne rosacea
What are the 4 most common reasons for a PK
- Keratoconus
- Fuchs (although more common is DSAEK now)
- Bullous keratopathy
- Repeat PK
Wessely ring
Type 3 hypersensitivity reaction causing peripheral corneal opacificaiton/infiltrate that is an immune ring
What condition would you consider treating with fumagillin?
Microsporidiosis
Brush Marks
Telangiectatic vessels at the lid margin from posterior margin to anterior margin. These are seen with meibomian gland disease.
What are ocular signs for primary HSV infection?
Blepharoconjunctivitis is number one. Can have a follicular reaction and periorbital vessicles. Stromal keratitis and iritis are uncommon in primary infection.
