Q

HOW DOES IT WORK?

A

Cost Index flight planning begins with the generation of a flight plan that optimizes the time
and fuel enroute while considering associated costs.

COST INDEX =TIME COST/FUEL COST

Q

Climb

A

Should the opportunity exist to use the optimum climb and descent speed, their
use is recommended. The opportunity to use recommended climb or descent
speeds generally relies on two factors: ATC and situational awareness. If
assigned a climb airspeed by ATC, then fly that airspeed. If there are speed
restrictions on a SID or STAR, comply with those speeds.

Q

how is the max alt calculated

A

The Maximum (MAX) altitude is defined as the highest altitude that the aircraft can
achieve at its current weight based upon a 1.3g low and high speed buffet margin
with a 500 fpm residual rate of climb.

Q

what is the savings telling us on the step climb page

A

It is an instantaneous snapshot of the difference in fuel flow
between the two altitudes on a savings percentage basis.
