Portfolios are a collection of projects and programs that are prioritized and aligned with strategic business activities. They contain projects and programs that may not be related.

Primary functions:
Manage shared resources
Maintain project management best practices and standards
Develop policies, procedures, templates, etc.

Organizational Process Assets
Process-related assets that can be used to influence the project’s success
Divided into two main categories:
- Processes and Procedures
- Corporate Knowledge Base
Generally unique to your organization. If it is something house and your corporate knowledgebase it should be an organizational process assets (template forms, policies and procedures)

Enterprise Environmental Factors
Internal and external factors that may influence the project’s success (generally intangible and not process-specific)
Are not always unique to your organization; they are generally intangible (software being an exception); may enhance or constrain options and will affect multiple organizations (Industry standards, market conditions)

Sequential: A phase can only start once the previous phase has completed.
Overlapping: A phase starts prior to the completion of the previous phase
