The Size of Playing Area
Playing Court = 18 meters (60feet) long and
9 meters (30 feet) wide
Free Zone = 3m wide on all sides
The playing field (beach volleyball courts) is made of
leveled sand
- The end lines on either end of the court.
- They delineate the line that players must stand behind when serving.
Boundary Line
- Theses lines are located on the court’s sides.
- Two players gather on the sidelines to make a replacement.
Sidelines
- The coach limitation line
- This is the region that is behind the attack line and the sidelines.
Court Endlines
- A small line behind the baseline before each serves. It is against the rules to cross this line when serving.
Service Line
The line that is in the center of the court, directly beneath the net.
Center Line
This line separates the front and back row players on either side of the court between the frontcourt and backcourt. The ball can be offensively attacked from this line as well.
Attack Line
The _____ ____ is limited by the axis of the center line and the rear edge of the attack line. It is considered to extend beyond the sidelines to the end of the free zone.
Front Zone
It is a 9m wide area behind each end line. It is laterally limited by two short lines, each 15 cm long, drawn 20 cm behind the end line as an extension of the sidelines.
Service Zone
It is limited by the extension of both attack lines up to the scorer’s table.
Substitution Zone
It is part of the free zone on the side of the team benches, limited by the extension of the attack line up to the end line.
Libero Replacement Zone
Sized approximately 3x3 m, are located in both of the bench side corners, outside the free zone.
Warm-up Area
Sized approximately 1x1 meter and equipped with two chairs, is located in the control area, outside the prolongation of each end line. They may be limited by a 5 cm wide red line.
Penalty Area
Placed vertically over the centerline.
Net and Posts
Net Height for Adults
Men - 2.43m
Women - 2.24m
Net Height for Juniors
16 and under - 2.24 m
14 and under - 2.12 m
12 and under - 2.00 m
Net Specifications:
1 m wide, 9.5–10 m long with 10 cm square black mesh
Posts Specification
- 2.55 m high, adjustable
- Located 0.5–1.0 m outside the sidelines
2 white bands, 5cm wide (same width as the court lines) and 1m long fastened vertically to the net and placed above each sideline.
Sidebands
A flexible rod, 1.80m long and 10mm in diameter made of fiberglass or similar material.
Antenna
Spherical, made out of flexible leather or synthetic leather case with a bladder inside, made of rubber or similar material.
Volleyball
Size of Volleyball
Between 20 -27 inches (65-67 cm)
Weight of Volleyball
Between 9-10 oz.(260-280g)
