The referee confirms that the player is allowed to serve
Movement: Move the hand to indicate the direction of service.
Authorization to Serve
Indicates which team is serving
Movement: Extend the arm to the side of the serving team.
Team to Serve
Teams switch sides after a set or at specific intervals
Movement: Raise the forearms front and back, twisting them around the body.
Change of Courts
A short break called by the coach or captain
Movement: Form a “T” with the hands, then indicate the requesting team.
Time-out
A player substitution is taking place
Movement: Circular motion of the forearms around each other.
Substitution
A minor misconduct by a player or coach (no point loss)
Movement: Show a yellow card.
Misconduct Warning
A team loses a point due to misconduct
Movement: Show a red card.
Misconduct Penalty
A player or coach must leave the playing area for the rest of the set
Movement: Show both cards together.
Expulsion
Removal of a player/coach due to severe misconduct
Movement: Hold a red and yellow card together in one hand.

The required points or sets are won
Movement: Cross the forearms in front of the chest, hands open.

Server fails to toss/release the ball before striking
Movement: Raise one arm, palm up, making a lifting motion.
Ball Not Tossed or Released at Service Hit
Server fails to serve within 8 seconds
Movement: Raise one hand with eight fingers extended.
Delay in Service
Illegal blocking or intentional screening
Movement: Raise both hands, palms forward.
Blocking Fault or Screening
Players are not in their correct positions during service
Movement: Point to the offending player or make circular hand motions.
Positional or Rotational Fault
Ball lands inside the court boundary
Movement: Point downward to the court.
Ball IN
Ball lands outside the boundary lines
Movement: Raise both arms straight up, palms outward.?
Ball OUT
A player holds or lifts the ball instead of hitting it cleanly
Movement: Slowly lift the forearm, palm facing upward.
Catch
Player touches the ball twice consecutively
Movement: Raise two fingers, spread open.
Double Contact
A team exceeds the three-hit limit
Movement: Raise one hand with four fingers extended, palm outward.
Four Hits
A player touches the net while the ball is in play
Movement: Touch the top of the net with one hand, then point to the offending player.
Net Touched by Player
A player illegally reaches over the net
Movement: Place one hand above the net, palm downward.
Reaching Beyond the Net
A back-row player or libero commits an illegal attack
Movement: Make a downward sweeping motion with the forearm, hand open.
Attack Hit Fault
A player illegally enters the opponent’s court
Movement: Point toward the center line or the specific fault area.
Penetration Fault
Both teams commit faults simultaneously
Movement: Raise both thumbs vertically.
