Health system needs to recognise differences between various groups so inequalities and injustices are addressed

Supportive Environments
Adequate health care that can support them, providing services at low / no cost and in areas accessible to all

- Low SES People
- Rural Communities
- Overseas Born People
Socioeconomic Factors
Income, Education, Employment, Housing
Strategies to help these groups
- Royal flying doctor service (remote areas)
- Incentive programs for med specialists to work in remote areas
- Funding to ATSI Health
- NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service

How common the condition is within the community
- Does the problem affect a large amount of people?
- Is it on the increase?
Potential for prevention and early intervention
Poor lifestyle behaviours can cause diseases / illness
- E.g Obesity, Lung cancer, CVD
Reducing smoking rates through health program campaigns resulted in less rates of cancer
Costs to the individual and community
Financial cost of treatment / loss of employment
Physical cost - Loss of mobility / functionality
Emotional Cost - Depression
Social Cost - Caused by damaged relationships / isolation
