AO1
- van ijzendoorn and kroognberg
Meta analysis of 32 studies of attachment, 2000 strange situation studies in 8 diff countries
Looking for evidence of inter cultural differences did exist and looking for intra cultural differences in one singular culture
Found that differences were small, secure was most common, IA was second
Intracultural variations are1.5 greater than inter
Secure is most common worldwide showing this is the best for emotional developemtn shwoing this is innate

AO3
most common reason for universal similarities is because attachment is an innate mechanism unmodified by culture however v and i analysis of 32 studies shown that attachment can change due to media presence, children around world are exposed to these similarities
Strengths
32 studies over 8 diff countries 2000 infants large sample size
Confouding
-Varied metholodgy with diff cultures, confounding variables include age wealth and social class
- Lack validity, conclusions cannot be drawn due to non matched studies
AO3
All studies assessed used the Strange Situation as a way of classifying attachment
Comparisons made are therefore using a standardised procedure
This means there is high reliability to the findings of Van Ijzendoorn & Kroonenberg
