What has been done for pedestrians?
Pedestrianisation of main streets reduced dependency in cars and was done in 3 days to avoid disruption and opposition
What have been done with the buses?
BRT bus system uses bi-articulate buses capable of transporting up to 4,000 people per day, only 1 fare for any journey making it affordable for all meaning more people use it (buses stop every 60 seconds at each stop), started in 1974, helped by Volvo who set up factory building chasis for bus (employ 3,400)
What’s the green exchange?
Allows people in slum areas to recycle their waste in exchange for fresh fruit and vegetables from the farms surrounding the city
How is waste sorted?
Recycled and quick, provides jobs and reduces landfill waste
How come developer are allowed to build taller buildings?
In exchange for leaving green space around them
How have they reduced flood risk?
Parks are allowed to flood during heavy rain
How were changes implemented well?
City was smaller and easier to make changes on a city wide scale, widespread change to enact quickly, starting early with sustainability any costs from retrofitting were minimised as large areas were developed with sustainability in mind, support from the people
