A

Small, rough growths caused by infection of keratinocytes with HPV

What are risk factors for warts?

A
  • Spread via direct skin to skin contact or via contaminated floors/surfaces
  • Skin damaged
  • Immunosuppresion

How do warts present?

A

Common Warts: Firm, raised papules with a rough surface (common on knuckles, knees and fingers)
Periungual: Painful warts around the nails that can be painful and disturb nail growth
Palmar/Plantar wards: Grow on the palms and soles of the feet with central dark dots

How are warts managed?

A
  • Usually no treatment needed
  • Treatment can be considered if painful. cosmetically unsightly or wart is persisting
  • Treatment includes topical salicylic acid, cryotherapy
  • Referral to derm needed for facial warts, immunocompromised individuals or persistent warts
