Selection criteria for day case surgeries patient

A

Health status
o ASA 1 & 2
o ASA 3  patients require careful assessment determining medical stability
o Not suitable  medically unstable patients (ASA 4 – 5)
Age
o > 6 months  super NB!
adequate transport home
social support

Neuraxial blocks discharge criteria

A

Normal perianal sensation
Plantar flexion of foot
Proprioception in big toe
Normal BP on standing / sitting
Parents should be warned about ambulatory and retention problems if their child has received a caudal block
