Selection criteria for day case surgeries patient

A
  • Health status
    o ASA 1 & 2
    o ASA 3  patients require careful assessment determining medical stability
    o Not suitable  medically unstable patients (ASA 4 – 5)
  • Age
    o > 6 months  super NB!
  • adequate transport home
  • social support

Neuraxial blocks discharge criteria

A
  • Normal perianal sensation
  • Plantar flexion of foot
  • Proprioception in big toe
  • Normal BP on standing / sitting
  • Parents should be warned about ambulatory and retention problems if their child has received a caudal block
