DC motor Flashcards
(5 cards)
How can you increase the speed of which the coil rotates in a DT motor?
By increasing the current and using a stronger magnet
What can the direction of rotation of coil and the DC motor be changed by?
Reversing the direction of the current supply and reversing the direction of the magnetic field, by reversing the poles of the magnet
The force supplied by the motor can be increased by:
In increasing the current in the coil, increasing the strength of the MF, adding more turns to the coil
How does a DC electric motor work?
1 - A coil of wire carries a current in a magnetic field between two and permanent magnets
2- each side of the coil experiences of force and opposite directions upon one side down on the other
3- this creates a turning effect or a rotational force
4- SRC : reverses the current direction Every half term, keeps the motor spinning in the same direction.
5- the motor keeps spinning continuously as long as there is a current
How is the split ring commutator connected in a circuit?
Is connected in a circuit with the cell via contact with the conducting brushes. Once the coil has rotated 90°, the split ring commutator no longer in contact with the brushes so no current flows to the coil. Some momentum of the coil causes the coil to continue to rotate slightly and the SRC reconnected with the carbon brushes and the current flow flows through the coil again.
