dealing with dissent Flashcards
(10 cards)
what is classed as inappropriate behaviour?
-dissent (shouting, questioning decisions or ability, kicking a ball off the pitch after a decision)
-using offensive, insulting or abusive language
-using discriminatory language
-physical abuse
what must be remembered when dealing with inappropriate behaviour?
spectators can be reported but can NOT be disciplined
players, coaches and managers can be reported AND disciplined
what is the first strategy to deal with parents?
Before every game, remind the two team managers or Respect Marshalls that they, not you, are responsible for the parents’ behaviour.
what is the second strategy to deal with parents?
Remind the manager that it’s a youth game of football, everyone is learning, everyone is human, but poor behaviour can spoil or even end a game prematurely
what is the third strategy to deal with parents?
Stay calm if you have an issue. It puts you in control of the situation. Remember that you should not be dealing directly with parents at any time.
what are the strategies to deal with mangers and coaches?
-Stay calm and composed: if you get too emotional it might seem that you’ve lost control.
-Be firm and confident.
-Be sure in what you are going to do or say: your body language will get your point across just as much as your words.
-Keep it clear and concise. If someone is frustrated, hear them out, then have your say.
-There is no need for back and forth, the more you speak, the more you invite a response.
how to show a sin bin and for how long?
-All cautions for dissent must be dealt with by the sin bin process.
-The referee signals by issuing a yellow card in the normal way and pointing to the touchline, where the player must go.
Duration:
- 10 minutes for all matches of 90 minutes.
- 8 minutes for other matches.
-Applies to players only, and not substitutes or coaching staff.
where should a sin binned player wait and when is it implemented?
-There is no designated sin bin area, but the player should be with management and subs.
-The sin bin period starts when play restarts.
-The referee includes any lost time.
-Where neutral assistants are appointed, they assist with timing.
what happens when a player is sin binned?
-A player in the sin bin cannot be substituted until the period has been expired, and not at all if all substitutes have been used. Referees should make sure they are familiar with the competition rules regarding substitutions for each fixture they officiate on.
-If the period has not expired at the end of the 1st half, it continues during the 2nd half (or extra time).
-Any player who is still in the sin bin at the end of the second period of Extra Time may take part in the taking of penalty Kicks.
