Q

what should happen with offsides?

A

If the assistant referee is neutrally appointed it is fair to ask:

-The assistant referee to stay in line with the second-to-last defender.
-If the player is offside, to raise their flag and keep it up until it has been acknowledged by the referee.
-Encourage the motto ‘a late flag is a great flag’ - encourage the assistant referee to take their time to decide. However, be mindful, if a goalkeeper and forward are likely to collide, an early flag could prevent this.
-The assistant referee to hold their position until the player places the ball in the correct area.
-If the assistant referee has not been neutrally appointed, it is fair to encourage the club assistant to make make sure the player is not interfering with an opponent or attempting to gain an advantage.
-If they are then ask them to raise their flag and as the referee will make the final decision.
