Dealing With Ethical Issues Flashcards
(6 cards)
Debriefing
- fully inform the participants about the nature and aim of the research
Role play
-pretending to be something instead of real behaviour
Alternatives
Presumptive consent- researchers ask people who are similar how they would feel about the experiment
Prior general consent- telling participant about ethical issues before the study is carried out
Retrospective consent- asking participants after the study is complete if their data can be used
Following the guidelines
Follow ethical guidelines set out by BPS
Ethical committees
People Analyse ethical issues in research
What are single and double blind trials
Single blind - participant doesn’t know aims of the experiment
Double blind - researcher and participant don’t know aims
This reduces demand characteristics and stops the researcher from influencing behaviour
