Significance of the last supper

A
  • the last supper is the Origin of the Christian Eucharist where Jesus told us to do in memory of him which we do in mass during holy communion.
  • Jesus foretold that one of his disciples would betray him and as this turns out to be judas we provide comfort in that fact that what Jesus says is reliable and true.
  • it gave the Passover meal new meaning when Jesus breaks the bread and to remember it as his body to remember the wine as his blood. It’s a new promise towards disciples
  • Jesus predicted peters denial to his disciples and this then became true and fulfilled the prophesies.

Problems of prayers in gethsemane for Christians today

A
  • Jesus was very troubled and distressed, this is not expected from god it makes it difficult for Christians to understand why he behaved like such a frighten human
  • why is God allowing his son to go through pain, God is meant to be omni-benevolent
  • Jesus shows lack in faith if he is asking god to take away his suffering yet he complains at his disciples for lacking faith. People struggle with the idea that Jesus didn’t have faith.
  • Jesus questions gods actions, Jesus is meant to be apart of the trinity therefore he is god. He does not need to be praying to his father.

The significance of trail before high priest

  • Jesus admitted to being he messiah, the first time he has openly done so
  • the trail was unfair, as there was no actually evidence and the high priest knew Jesus was innocent but gave in to the crowd to please them
  • Jesus kept quiet and don’t bother to save himself because he knew it had to be completed to fulfil the prophecies

  • encourages Christians to believe that Jesus really did die as he Mary Magdalene witnessed his dead body and that he really did raise for the dead
  • it reflects Jesus’ humanity, he experience every aspect of being human.
  • it fulfils the prophecies to allow the resurrection to happen so Christa is could be joined with god after death

  • transubstantiation- Christians believe that they are actually receiving Jesus broke body and blood.

Different attitudes towards judas

  • as a traitor, betrayed Jesus for money.
  • he may have been arrested before and his betrayal was a deal of being released
  • judas wanted Jesus to fulfil the prophecies therefore acted out in friendship and handed him over
  • Matthew accounts that judas took his own life after the arrest, which shows he was truly sorry
