The Book of Revelation suggests the Kingdom will not be a new place but an improved continuation; others suggest is is a metaphysical place.
John’s Gospel on judgement.
Judgement is personal and continual, which is more important than a final judgement.
Millenarianism/Chiliastic Doctrine.
Belief Christ will return and rule Earth for a thousand years following the Last Judgement.
Moral issue caused by some millenarianists.
Encouraging environmental or nuclear destruction to hasten the end and establish the Kingdom of God.
Why do Catholics teach purgatory.
- It is fair for those who are not evil but are not prepared for God either.
- Ambiguity between personal and final judgement.

Hell was a spiritual state which is painful because of individuals ‘interior anguish’ which would pass away when the world was redeemed.
Origen comment on hell.

Judgement and torture in hell is actually the guilty conscience of the person in front of Christ.
Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy’.
Hell is made up of nine circles characterised by Christian vices and each person is punished according to their sin.
