(44 cards)
endocarditis
inflammation of inside lining of heart chambers & heart valves
endocardiosis
abnormal tissue accumulating w/in tricuspid or mitral heart valves
syncope
loss of consciousness for short period of time
tachypnea
abnormally rapid breathing
dyspnea
sensation of running out of air & not being able to breathe fast or deep enough
effusion
abnormal collection of fluid in hollow spaces or btwn tissues of body
hypertrophy
enlargement of organ or muscle due to increased size of constituent cells
hyperplasia
increased cell production in normal tissue or organ
Idiopathic
arising spontaneously or from obscure/unknown cause
compliance
describes how easily heart expands when filled w/ blood
Etiological
causing or contributing to dev of disease or condition
Plexogenic
constellation of vascular changes occurring in those w/ pulmonary arterial hypertension
arteriopathy
weakened CT prevent heart’s arteries from effectively pumping out oxygen-rich blood throughout body & depriving other vital organs from fxning properly
Eisenmenger complex
specific subset of Eisenmenger syndrome related to VSD
VSD
ventricular septal defect
Infundibular septum
separates R & L ventricular outflow tracts
Tetralogy of Fallot
is combo of 4 heart changes present @ birth (VSD, overriding aorta, pulmonic stenosis, & right ventricular hypertrophy)
Dysphagia
difficulty swallowing
DIC
Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation -> rare but serious condition that causes abnormal blood clotting throughout body’s blood vessels
PMN
polymorphonuclear neutrophils
Collagen
most abundant prot in body, primary building block of skin, muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments, & other CTs
Pathogenesis
process by which infection leads to disease
uremia
clinical condition associated w/ declining renal fxn & is characterized by fluid overload, electrolyte imbalances, metabolic abnormalities, & physiological changes
nutmeg liver
appearance change due to perfusion abnormality of liver usually as result of hepatic venous congestion
