an example of demographic changes affecting policy within the UK
(hint:1945,1950/1960)

A

In 1945 there was fewer than 20000 non white residents, in the present day this is now 19 million.
this originally stemmed from the Windrush generation in the 1950/1960s where the first black Caribbean immigrant came to the UK
they were faced with discrimination which ultimately created the race relations act

the race relations act timeline? (1965,1968,1976,2010)

A

1965- banned racial discrimination in public and made it an offence
1968- outlawed discrimination in areas such as employment, housing and public services
1976- strengthening the law to cover both direct and indirect discrimination
2010- equality act takes over which extends the law to protected characteristics
