Dental Radiology Flashcards
(13 cards)
What personal protection equipment is worn during radiographs?
- Lead gown
- Thyroid protector
- Gloves
- Dosimeter
A dosimeter is legally required to be worn when performing radiographs.
What are the two parts of radiograph equipment?
- X-ray generator
- Receptor
What are the patient positions while taking dental radiographs?
- Lateral
- Sternal
- Dorsal
- Angled
What are the two facts involved in radiographic technique?
- The way you angle the generator to the sensor
- The settings of the generator machine
What are the three angles used for taking radiographs?
- Bisecting angle
- Parallel angle
- Extra oral
What is the bisecting angle technique?
Film flat and as close to the tooth as possible, with tooth on the edge. This is the best technique for cats. Used to view all teeth except mandibular premolars ¾ and molars.
What is the parallel angle technique used for?
Used on the caudal mandibular premolars and molars in dogs and cats. Place the dental film parallel to the long axis of the tooth.
What should be ensured when using the parallel angle technique?
Ensure film is pushed down below ventral border of mandible to ensure entire tooth is imaged.
How far should the distance be from sensor to generator when taking dental radiographs?
4 inches
What should be focused on when taking dental radiographs?
Focus on the roots
What does a full mouth series of radiographs consist of?
Approximately 9 radiographs
True or False: The extra oral technique is commonly used.
False
Fill in the blank: The bisecting angle is formed by the intersection of the plane of film and the _______.
[long axis of the tooth]
