what are the behavioural characteristics of depression
(AAD)
1. Activity levels
- reduced levels of energy, lethargic leading to withdrawal from work, education and social life
- psychomotor agitation - struggle to relax and are constantly pacing
2. disruption to sleep and eating behaviour
- mat experience insomnia or hypersomnia
- appetite and eating may increase or decrease leading to weight gain or loss
3. aggression and self harm
- irritable and verbally and physically aggressive
cutting or suicide attempts
emotional characteristics of depression
(LAE)
1. lowered mood
- feeling sad worthless and empty
2. anger
- extreme anger at themselves or others
3. lowered self esteem
- self loathing
Cognitive characteristics of depression
(PAT)
1. poor concentration
- inability to stick with a task coupled up with poor decision making
2. attending to and dwelling on the negative
- glass as half empty
- bias towards recalling unhappy events rather than happy ones
3. absolutist thinking
- black and white thinking
