What is birth rate?
The number of live births per 1000 each year.
What is death rate?
The number of deaths per 1000 each year.
What is fertility rate?
The average number of babies produced by a woman in her reproductive life.
What is infant mortality?
The number of children per 1000 who die before their first birthday.
What is the dependency ratio?
The sum of the younger population plus the elderly divided by the number of the working class, multiplied by 100.
What is the life expectancy?
The average number of years a person is expected to live.
What is HDI and how is it measured?
Human Development Index is a means of measuring human development.
It is measured on a scale of 0-1 and indicates social, political and economic growth.
What is gini coefficient?
Gini coefficient is a measurement of the distribution of income between the population, and how it changes over time.
It is measured on a scale of 0-1, meaning that values close to 0 mean that income is more shared.
What is GDP and GDP per capita?
GDP is the total value of goods and services produced by a country in a year. GDP per capita is the GDP divided by the number of people.
What is maternal mortality rate?
The number of women who die through pregnancy reasons per 100000 live births
What is the Corruption Perception Index?
A measure of the level of corruption and to work out where a country’s money is safe, scaling from 1-10, 10 being safe, 0 being completely corrupt.
What is top down aid?
Aid given to people through the government and TNCs. These are usually large scale projects.
What is bottom up aid?
Money given by NGOs for smaller scale, specific projects.
What is globalisation?
Globalisation is when a certain brand/economy becomes increasingly interconnected thanks to increasing trade.
