Erosional landforms Flashcards
(4 cards)
1
Q
What are the differences between joints and faultlines?
A
- Joints are dispositional
- Faults are larger
- Joints are created through freeze-thaw and biological weathering.
- Joints are more common to see.
2
Q
What are the properties of hard rock?
A
- Harder, or less resistant to erosion
- Near this rock beaches aren’t as common
- They are steep
- Most cliffs out of this rock are chalk
3
Q
What is abrasion?
A
When rocks are picked up and thrown or swept across the cliff. The rock eventually wears off due to this.
4
Q
How is an arch formed?
A
Through hydraulic action, a cave erodes, eventually hollowing out the back and forming an arch. However, chemical and biological weathering serves as a catalyst for this situation.
