Define cuisine
The style of food preparation and cooking that reflects the characteristics of a particular country or geographic region.
Define culture
The shared or learnt patterns of behaviour or identity of a group of people.
Define fertile cresent
A semi-circular or crescent shaped region of fertile land to the east of the Mediterranean Sea that forms a ‘bridge’ between Africa and Eurasia.
Define food system
A complicated process of how food goes from the farm to food factories, then to stores, and finally to the consumer’s plate at home or in a restaurant.
Development of food production and food cultures in the fertile crescent
As agricultural communities grew, they cultivated other crops such as beans, lentils and chickpeas as that is their main source of foods in their meals.
Development of food production and food cultures in the Mediterranean
They began with cultivating cereals, particular wheat and barely, and legumes. Including the use of sheep, goats, lamb and pig. Fish and shellfish also being a big thing.

They had a wide variety of agricultural produce of cereals such as wheat, barley, and millet (peas, beans and lentils) and fruits (apples, pears, and figs), they also kept cows, sheep and goats providing them with milk and cheese.
Development of food production and food cultures in East Asia and Oceania
This was particularly important in the development of cultivated rice and rice fields. Japanese growing wheat, barley, soybeans, adzuki beans, peaches, and persimmons. China influencing with the use of chopsticks and introducing tofu and soy sauce.
Development of food production and food cultures in the Americas
Beans, squash and peanuts were grown specifically in regions of South America. Corns, beans, chilli peppers, squash and cocoa being cultivated in Central America.
