What is aid
Aid is the voluntary transfer of resources from one country(usually developed) to another(usually developing) for altruistic purposes.

What is bilateral aid?
Resources that are given from the government of one country directly to the government of another country

What is multilateral aid?
Resources that are given by rich countries to supra- national organisations such as the United Nations. Then given to recipient countries..

What is emergency aid?
Often given after a natural disaster, it is usually food water medication and tents.

Usually monetary and funds given for development projects E.G healthcare, education, energy

What is foreign direct investment?(FDI)
Foreign direct investment is when businesses in one country put money into businesses in another country. This is not aid-it is a commercial transaction with a view to make profit.

What is an example of foreign direct investment?
Chinese firms have high levels of investment in many countries in Africa since 2000. China have brought benefits to the continent, infrastructure and better services . In return China is able to secure good trade deals that allow it to extract Africa’s valuable natural resources. It also gives China increasing geopolitical power on a world stage and has seen Africa become a huge and growing market for Chinese produced goods.

Bilateral aid with strings attached- the country given the aid has to sign a trade deal with the other country
