Type 1 vs Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
-simple constrast
Type 1: insufficent insulin is being made
Type 2: insulin receptors on target cells are unresponsive
Symptoms of diabetes mellitus (4)
-high urine output with sugar in it
-low energy
-excessive thirst
-high blood glucose levels
-over time, what can high blood sugar lead to (4)
-what happens to cells when the body has alot of blood sugar. what happens to the liver and muscles and why? What happens to proteins?
-blindness, kidney failure, heart problems, amputations
-they starve. the liver and muscles cannot produce glycogen because glucose isnt entering the cells. proteins are broken down.
