What is a dictatorship?

A
  1. Just one leader who has control over the party and country.
  2. Uses propaganda to paint himself as a hero.
  3. The government tightly controls all aspects of the state.
  4. Disregards the rights of individual citizens.
  5. Control citizens through laws, police, spying, force as well as radio, cinema and newspapers
  6. Only one party all other parties are banned or destroyed.
  7. Doesn’t allow opposition or elections.

Adolf Hitler as a dictator.

A

Hitler known as Fuhrer meaning leader.
Hitler had a secret police called the Gestapo, which had the power to arrest and imprison people without trial.
They set up a web of informers, who would report any manners to them.
They indoctrinated people in believing that Nazi’s were the purest race and that the Jews were impure and inferior.

What is a democracy?

A

The leader of the party with the most votes is in control.
Political parties represent points of view and compete for the votes of the electorate.
In democracy political power is secured by winning an election.
In a democracy, newspapers are free to print the truth.
One is allowed to criticise the government, when mistakes are made or there is a disagreement.
There is less control over films and books people can enjoy.
The government has less control over how people spend their time and what they believe.
People are free to join clubs, political parties and other groups.
