The Treaty of London

A
  1. In 1838 the Great Powers had signed a document promising to protect Belgium.
  2. Germany asked Britain to ignore the document.
    Britain stayed true to the Treaty and when Germany refused to take her troops out of Belgium, Britain declared war on 4th August 1914.

  1. That it would take 6 weeks for Russia to mobilize its army.
  2. The United Kingdom would not fight for Belgium instead they would stay neutral with all countries.
  3. It would take 6 weeks to invade France.
  4. Belgium would surrender at the German Attack.

A
  1. was the 1st battle in WW1
    2.From 5 -16th August 1914.
  2. Liege considered to be the most heavily fortified spot in Europe.
  3. Defended by a ring of 12 heavily armed forts.
  4. Forts contained 400 retractablr guns.
    Germans won, buf suffered heavy losses.
