Q

Advantages of CAD

A

Speeds up the design process, editing ability makes it much more convenient than redrawing, easier to work collaboratively, completed designs can be sent anywhere

Q

What is laser cutting

A

High energy laser beam os used to cut materials, leaving a clean edge, can cut any material

Q

What is virtual modelling

A

Used to test models before manufacture, checks if certain components fit, and which components can be removed later on - can check if a product can be machined easily / correctly

Q

What is CFD / computational fluid dynamics

A

Stimulates the flow of fluids and gases around a product, designers use this to improve the aerodynamics of a product, saves money as you don’t have to spend money on a prototype and then additional wind tunnels

Q

What is FEA / finite element analysis

A

Carries out stress analysis on a virtual model, simulates vibrations and shock loads pointing out weak points in a product, allowing further development
