What causes a disease?
What's a communicable disease?
communicable diseases cause symptoms which let you know we have the disease
What does a vaccination do?
Exposes your immune system to a particular pathogen that it can develop antibodies to fight it
What are antibodies?
Antibodies destroy pathogens by binding to then and causing the to be cut open
What's an antitoxin?
Antitoxins can detect and bind to toxins, neutralising them which makes the less harmful
What do antibiotics do?
Treat bacterial infections
What do steroids do?
increase muscle growth
What do stimulants i.e caffeine do?
Become more alert and increase concentration
What do statins do?
Reduce blood cholesterol
What do painkillers do?
relieve the symptoms of disease
What does thalidomide do?
What's a non communicable disease?
A disease that she not caused by pathogen
What's a benign tumour?
A growth of abnormal cells which are contained in one area
What's a malignant tumour?
Malignant tumour is cancerous which invade neighbouring tissue and spread to different part of the body in the blood
What does coronary heart disease affect?
it affects the coronary arteries which will provide oxygen and glucose to the heart muscle
Thrombosis is when the blood flow is restricted, blood pressure then increases
Atheroma is the name of fatty deposit which forms within the wall of the artery
