Why is Diversity & Inclusion important within the property industry?
- Typically not a diverse industry (male heavy).
- Different perspectives.
- I am passionate about people entering the industry from under represented backgrounds through apprenticeships
What do you do to promote Diversity &Inclusion ?
As an apprentice myself, I have spoken at a number of apprentice events at state schools to ensure that students are aware of the opportunity that an apprenticeship provides.

What social and legislative schemes are you aware of that promote inclusive environments?
Social - workshops run by the International longevity centre
Legislative - Equality Act 2010.
Could yo please provide an overview of key topics that are addressed as part of the Equality Act 2010?
Defines the importance of protected characteristics such as:
Age
Disability
Race
Pregnancy
It has made it illegal to discriminate against people. Discrimination being relevant to the above protected characteristics.
What is unconscious bias?
Unconscious bias is when we make judgments or decisions on the basis of our prior experience, our own personal deep-seated thought patterns.
Have you ever experienced unconscious bias?
Yes, being an apprentice it is peoples assumption that you are less knowledgeable.
How can unconscious bias be overcome?
By better education relevant to common stereotypes and people of different backgrounds etc.
How are team members tendered to and appointed?
Team members are appointed to via an RFP. I would typically tender to 4no. parties from each discipline. I would review fees received a recommend the preferred party to the client to facilitate their final selection. Once finalised the client should sign terms of engagement and enter into a formal appointment.
What roles are important to be maintained within a project?
Leader, project manager, client (decision maker), contributing consultants.

The practice or quality of including or involving people from a range of different social and ethnic backgrounds and of different genders, sexual orientations
What is inclusion?
The practice or policy of providing equal access to opportunities and resources for people who might otherwise be excluded or marginalized,
How do you go about promoting diversity inclusion within your daily life?
- Work for a disabled sports charity once a month.
- Challenge views when I feel they are marginalising
How do you promote D&I in your professional day to day?
- Speaking at schools regarding apprenticeships.
How do you go about mitigating unconscious bias in your projects?
- Transparency with appointments / matricies to demonstrate.
- Challenge views when unconscious bias may be prevalent.
