- two female researchers spent months with pts to build rapport and establish trust through use of open ended questions to gain understandings/meanings
- found that DV occurred when men felt women undermining their authority, marriage as legitimising violence against women through conferring power to men and dependency for women
- 88% of women has left at some point, but went back due to issues with financials, and problems with self esteem/ confidence
