DQ25 Flashcards
(5 cards)
Draw diagrams comparing the airflow and vortex patterns for IGE vs. OGE hover
…
Explain why hovering OGE requires more power than hovering IGE
Vortex generation is restricted in ground effect. This makes the outer parts of the blade more efficient in ground effect.
Define translating tendency
The tendency of a helicopter to drift to the side. A helicopter with a single rotor that spins counterclockwise will drift to the right due to tail rotor thrust.
To compensate for translating tendency the helicopter design usually includes one or more of the following: A: B: C: D:
A: Flight controls may be rigged so when it is centered, the disc will be slightly to the left.
B: The mast may be tilted slightly to the left
C: Collective pitch control may also tilt the rotor disc slightly to the left
D: Systems may compensate digitally
