Formula Functions: Purges the accumulation of heat

Diagnosis & Symptoms
1.YangmingFu syndrome: Constipation, abdominal fullness and pain with tenderness, flatulence, aversion to pressure, tidal fever at dusk, delirium, sweating in the hands and feet, dry yellow tongue coating or dry black tongue coating with fissure, deep and forceful pulse
2.Fecal impaction due to heat with watery discharge: Watery discharge with terribly foul odor, abdominal distension and pain with tenderness and guarding, dry mouth and tongue, slippery and forceful pulse
3.Cold limbs due to excess of heat, convulsion, mania and other symptoms belonging to excessive interior heat syndrome

Applications: Infectious or non-infectious febrile diseases, paralytic, simple and obliterative intestinal obstructions

Yang-mingFu syndrome with four types of abdominal symptoms disharmony

Ingredients
1.Da Huang(Radixet RhizomaRhei)
2.MangXiao (Mirabilitum)
3.ZhiShi (FructusIrnmuaturusCitriAurantii)
4.HouPo (Cortex MagnoliaeOfficinalis)

Preparation: Decoct ZhiShi and HouPo first, then add Da Huang, dissolve MangXiao in the strained tea

Contraindication & Cautions
1.Contraindicated to the pregnant women
2.Cautiously used in the patients with exterior symptoms or with deficiency
3.Over administration is prohibited

4 types of abdominal symptoms disharmony:

  1. Focal distension refers to the sensation of obstruction, distension, and heaviness which is focused in the epigastrium
  2. Fullness refers to the visible distention which is resistant to palpation
  3. Dryness refers to the dry stool which accumulates in the intestines and causes parts of the abdomen to become tense and firm
  4. Hardness refers to the heat which accumulates and takes form resulting in constipation and abdominal pain that increases upon pressure

Symptoms: Constipation, thirst, irritability, fever like steaming, sweating, mild distension and fullness in the abdomen, yellow tongue coating, slippery and rapid pulse Or vomiting blood, nosebleed, gum bleeding, swollen gums and throat or erythema and purpura, due to heat in the stomach and intestine

3.GanCao (Radix GlycyrrhizaeUralensis)

Preparation: Decoct Da Huang and GanCao first, then dissolve MangXiao in the strained decoction

Preparation: Grind the ingredients into powder and form into pills with honey. Take 15g daily.

Formula Functions: Moistens dryness, harmonizes the blood, and disperses wind

Diagnosis: Constipation from injury to the Spleen and Stomach due to wind-heat entering the Intestines, or from improper diet or overwork

Symptoms & Applications: This type of constipation includes aspects of blood deficiency, blood stasis, and wind (due to blood deficiency). The generation of wind further desiccates the Intestines, thereby aggravating the constipation. This formula is stronger than the Ma Zi Ren Wan, and is indicated for more severe conditions.
