Q

Why arid regions dry

A

High pressures all year, preventing alot of clouds to be formed limiting rainfall
Prevailing wind usually comes from over land meaning it does not have moisture and it very dry

Q

What is Hydrological drought

A

This is the impact of reduced rainfall on a hydrological system such as:

Q

Human causes

A

Dam building
Restricts flow of water
downstream affecting people
relying on water downstream
Agricultural use
Abstraction from a river
Some crops need more water e.g.
cotton
Too much water used up
Leads to drought
Deforestation
Trees reduce evaporation and add
moisture to atmosphere through
transpiration
Removing trees can reduce amount of water stored in soil and drop moisture levels
