A
  • Recurrent and persistent thoughts/urges/images that are experienced as instrusive and unwanted (generally causes anxiety/distress)
  • Attempts to ignore/suppress above or neutralize them with some other thought/action (compulsions)

How are compulsions defined in OCD (2)?

A
  • Repetitive behaviours or mental acts that the person feels driven to perform in response to an obsession or according to rigid rules
  • Above are aimed at preventing/reducing anxiety, distress or prevention of some dreaded event/situation (non-realistic in neutralizing/prevention or excessive)
